This month the Dye StudyGroup will dye protein fibers (wool) that need heat to set the color.  Member Debra Brown will lead this day-long event.

She will work with one of the easiest acid dyes, Pro One Shot. Instructions for Pro One Shot immersion dyeing and the 6-Step Gradation Dyeing using Pro One Shot are available here.  Pro One Shot dyes are sometimes sold under the name of Country Classic Dyes. They contain citric acid and salt needed to make them into an acid dye. At this session colors will be mixed (bring a dust mask!) but we will not have to add chemicals, except for vinegar at the end if there still appears to be dye in the mason jars.

Color that will be available to use are:
Chestnut Chili Pepper
Maize Olive Drab
Clay Terra Cotta
Reddish Brown Pansy
Teal Blue Chinese Red
Twilight Rust
Tiger Lilly Evergreen
Mouse Grey Raspberry
Grasshopper Mustard

Participants are welcome to bring other colors. Please stick to the Pro One Shot/Country Classics to make it easier.

We will be use quart mason jars for gradation dyeing. For each gradation dyeing please bring:
Six one- ounce skeins of wool, loosely tied OR six strips of wool fabric 9” x 12” (for the Kool-Aid dyeing Debra used 100% wool felt from JoAnn’s and it took the dye very well.)

If you want to dye up to four ounces of yarn, fabric, or fleece one color you can do that too. You will not be using the mason jars and just be using one of the canning pots.

If you would like to join this group, please contact Linda at lindakarenstone@gmail.com For this session, it is imperative that you let Linda know you will attend. She will make sure you get a complete list of what to bring.

Also, be sure and check out some some snapshots from our March Kool-Aid dyeing session.
