Lever Action Inkle Loom Class – weave fabric up to 12 inches wide, 72 inches long
Learn to weave bands, belts, tie-backs, cloth and more while working with a closed sided inkle loom.
Class fee covers all materials, including this unique inkle loom that is yours to keep!
This class explores the use and opportunities with the inkle loom. Each student will leave with a warped loom and a partially completed project. It is a closed sided inkle-weaving table loom, uses premade spring-wire heddles, and can weave up to 12” wide. Length is limited to about 72 inches, which is plenty for most neck scarves and bags. Inkle looms are primarily used for weaving strong, warp faced or warp dominant straps and bands but with alternative threading and hand manipulation techniques similar to those used in backstrap weaving, other types of fabric can be woven.
The class is taught by Judy Olsen. Judy has been a Spokane Handweavers’ Guild member for more than 20 years. She started leading handweaving classes in the late 1990’s as an adjunct professor with Spokane Community Colleges. Her ongoing exploration of, and interest in, home weaving looms stimulated a year-long experiment to establish the weaving limits of this particular machine. She will be sharing those early experiments while you start on your own adventure.
